A Black and White Affair

originally posted 5/9/2009

This was one of the classiest bridal showers I have attended in a long time. The bride's colors are simply black & white. There is no "pop" of color ... just black and white. Her wedding is May 22nd so I will be sure to have some pictures from then as well.

The shower was set up in the home of a friend and had multiple tables set up around the dining room and living room for everyone to sit at. Each table had a different black & white fabric under the centerpiece with a vase of flowers and frames with the bride and groom growing up.

The food was a wonderful mix of bunch items and a delicious cake. Lots of fresh fruit. My favorite was the potato casserole.

The cake was made and decorated by a friend of the bride's mom. It was a light and fluffy cherry chip cake with the most decedent buttercream frosting.

I don't have permission to post pictures of the guests but I wanted to show off the gift that I made for the bride. It is a bath towel wedding cake.

The bottom layer is 2 bath towels folded in thirds and rolled. The middle layer is 2 hand towels and the top layer 2 washcloths. To decorate the layers I printed off digital scrapbook paper and made 2" wide strips. Then added the white grosgrain ribbon. The monogram hand towel was the final touch that really pulled it all together. It took me less than an hour to assemble and decorate the cake. It was also a HUGE hit at the shower.

Bridal Shower for Two!

Two weeks ago three of my closest friends threw Miss G and I a bridal shower. I will honestly say that for a while I didn't think I was going to have a shower. I don't have a traditional bridal party and since it is my second wedding a lot of stuff gets forgotten or pushed to the side. In one of my few Bridal Meltdowns I told my bestest friend 'A' that I didn't think I was going to get a shower. What happened next was VERY kind and considerate of her, but completely unexpected. Not knowing my entire group of friends she went to my Honorary MOH and asked her take the reigns. MOH J did just that, and got 2 of my other friends B & C to help as well.

Walking in the front door of my friend B's house we were greated by an adorable little table all decked out with photos of our family.

Around the room there was a few more by the food

and by the drinks. As a quick side note these adorable infusion jars will be used at the wedding as well. I think they need cute little signs - Bill thinks I am insane LOL. If you look close you can also see our pics on the side of the fridge!

One last picture and a beautiful floral arrangement on the dessert table. I think I had one of each kind! Oops!

We had a nice intimate number of friends and family. I was very honored by all that were able to come. After a few fun games (that all involved writing so Miss G couldn't really participate as much.) She and I opened presents

beautiful serving plates from my SIL

a honeymoon basket with rose petals, candles, champagne, chocolate & the Love Dare book

our new dishes courtesy of one of the ladies at the church

one of my favorite gifts - a quilt & sham set with embroidered sunflowers!

my friend C made the rehearsal bouquet.

Of course Miss G modeled it for me.

It was one of the best ways to spend a Saturday afternoon. With friends :)

DIY: Hostess Gifts

I had a wonderful & beautiful bridal shower on Saturday. Three of my closest friends pitched in and put together an afternoon shower that I really enjoyed. The pictures are on my other camera, so you will have to wait to see the adorable photos of us that they used as decor, and to see the beautiful cheesecake display, and all the other blue and sunflower goodness!

I took some quick photos of the hostess gifts that I made for them. It wasn't my original idea since Mrs. Latte and Miss Stiletto both have created these, but I really loved their idea. I did put my own little spin on the idea.

I used my digital scrapbooking supplies yet again to create the "Thank You" design that I cut out and put on the kraft paper bags.

I made coordinating tags for each of the items that say:
"... for being so sweet"

Another friend that is better in the kitchen than I am, came over Friday night and helped me make a batch of caramel brownies. It is a good thing we made two batches ... they were SO good!

"... for showering me with love"

This gift was a simple bar of ivory soap that I dressed up with the instructions from the lovely Miss Apple Cider. I had been looking for cute little decorative soaps, but I couldn't find any I liked. The papers were printed from the digital scrapbooking kit and then cut to size and wrapped up.

"... for lighting up my day"

I had the ivory pillar candles already, so I found nice little trays for them to sit on, the turned to my digital scrapbooking supplies to make a cute wrap to go around the candle. The paper has to be removed before lighting the candle, but it made the presentation SO cute!

The ladies thought the gifts were adorable, and I am so glad. Saying thank you for all their hard work was the least I could do.

Did you give thank you gifts to the hostess at your shower.

A Black & White Shower: Sneak Peak

Remember my crazy weekend? Yea, I barely remember it too! I haven't finished uploading the pictures, but I wanted to give you a sneak peak of the buffet table, it was a bunch, with lots of fresh fruit and yummy breakfast goodies. The cake was just too adorable for words ... the swiss dots, the teeny tiny flower and a ruffle border. Simply marvelous!!

Did you drool over the details at your friends bridal showers before your big day?
